Episode 55 – Tournaments & Meta Part 1

Hey there Listeners,

It’s be close to two months since we’ve released our last episode, which I must sincerely apologise for, as I got extremely busy during May and the beginning of June with Uni, Work and a heap of other stuff. In this episode, joining Hugh and Myself is John K. who jumped in on our Cancon 2016 episode, and is back for another slice of the podcasting action! The topic of discussion is focused around Tournaments and Meta, now this is going to be the first part of at least 2 episodes, maybe even three if we have the content to do that many focused on this one topic. Some of the content in this episode is about a month old, so please bare with it and I’ll try to get another episode out soon with recent content as well. So without holding this up any longer, here’s the run through for this episode:

1. Hobby Talk – John starts us off by going through his Gaming history as well as what armies he plays, then we all talk about what hobby we have been working on lately as well as any games played – 0:01:00

2. News & Rumours – I bring the latest New Releases and Pre-Orders out from GW as of the 30th of May, as well as some of the rumours that were circulating at the time with some discussion on the new Death from the Skies Supplement and Draft GW FAQ’s – 0:06:50

3. Australian ITC Rankings and Event – I talk about the upcoming ITC Tournament that are happening in the next few months. Note that as of posting, Wintercon 2016 is currently at 44 Players and Lists are due on the 1st of July. Also, I run through the Australian ITC Rankings as of the 30th of May, going through the Top 5 Players, Top 3 teams and Top Australian Player for each faction as well as where they are currently ranking in the relevant rankings section – 0:22:45

4. Jolt Games ITC Tournament Wrap Up – I quickly discuss how the Jolt Games April 40K ITC Tournament went from being the TO as well as going into some details to do with who got what prizes as well as the meta at the tournament – 0:32:28

5. Tournament Meta – We talk about the current state of the Meta Game in the Tournament Scene, with some analysis of the Meta at several events as well as discussing how and why we believe the Meta is how it currently stands – 0:39:00

6. Interview with Paul McKelvey from Best Coast Pairings – I interview Paul McKelvey to talk about the new Best Coast Pairings Tournament Organiser App, which is also the Official ITC Tournament App  as well as the ITC Rankings, which Best Coast Pairings now facilitate as well – 1:08:28

7. Interview with Josh & Matt Part 1 – I interview Josh and Matt, who are members of the Victorian Tournament scene, as well as apart of the Community Comp Team. We discuss alot to do with the Victoria Tournament Scene and their State Meta as well as starting to touch on Community Comp – 1:43:30

8. Tournament Formats & FAQ’s – We continue the topic of Tournaments, with discussing what Formats/Systems are commonly being used as well as the FAQ’s that are used by those Formats/Systems. We mainly focus upon the two most relevant to the Australian Scene currently, which is the Community Comp Format with the AUSNZ FAQ, and the ITC Format with it’s own FAQ and Missions and discussing them in depth about what impact they have on the competitive state of the game as well as the Meta that can be created by these different formats before wrapping up the show – 2:36:08
